Math 244: Calculus III


General Information, Syllabus, Assessment and Test Dates

Undergraduate Catalog Description: Three-dimensional analytic geometry, vector-valued functions, partial differentiation,multiple integration, and line integrals. Fall and Spring semester. Prerequisite: A gradeof "C-" or better in Math 143.

Course Goals

  1. Develop a thorough understanding of the concepts and techniques of multivariable calculus.
  2. Further develop the ability to apply your knowledge of calculus to solve unfamiliar problems.
  3. (Further) develop skills for working effectively with others on mathematics problems.

Chapter 12: Functions of Several Variables
Chapter 13: A Fundamental Tool: Vectors
Chapter 14: Differentiating Functions of Several Variables
Chapter 15: Optimization: Local and Global Extrema
Chapter 16: Integrating Functions of Several Variables
Chapter 17: Parameterizing and Vector Fields

Worksheets will be completed in groups, often using Maple. Each worksheet must be completed and turned in (to be graded). Maple is widely available across campus (Des Peres computer lab, McDonnell-Douglas Hall computer lab). The worksheets will be available across the internet. You will submit your Maple worksheets by email. You may find it advantageous to purchase your own copy of Maple - instructions on obtaining a copy of Maple at reduced cost will be given in class.
