Why is this Site here?

A fair question! Here is my response:

  • I continue to be interested in promoting the use of appropriate internet applications in mathematics education. I intend to continue to see if I can effectively use these technologies in teaching my own classes (see, for example, the class information, including regularly updated homework assignments, under Teaching). There are valuable lessons to be learned about what does not work (or does not work well with current technology) in addition to what does work. I enjoy the challenge of trying to find useful and effective ways to use the web as an effective resource.
  • I want to help promote mathematics, its beauty and its applications.
  • I want to help promote (in my own small way) the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Saint Louis University by presenting a view of the Department's and my work and interests.
  • This site is a place to practice writing html and css code.
This site is useful to my students. I hope that (over time) it will also prove useful to other (perhaps more casual) visitors.

A Note

I regard these pages as work under continual development, although the content and design will change significantly only at irregular intervals. I do value constructive comments (email: russell.blyth@slu.edu) (for example, if you spot bugs in the html code, if you have suggestions about how I could tweak these pages to improve them, or if you want to recommend resources I should know about). Just try to keep in mind that this site is not the work of a professional web page designer (although I am grateful for the expertise and examples of various professionals who have made their work available online and in books)!
